Bryan Sontag, LAT, ATC | Head Athletic Trainer

The Campbell High School sports medicine program is dedicated to providing the highest quality health care for all CHS athletes. Our sports medicine staff comprised of a team provider, team physical therapist, and team athletic trainer, provide preventative care, injury evaluations, immediate injury care, and rehabilitative services for all injuries.
Athletic trainers (ATs) are highly qualified, multi-skilled health care professionals who collaborate with physicians to provide preventative services, emergency care, clinical diagnosis, therapeutic intervention and rehabilitation of injuries and medical conditions. Athletic trainers work under the direction of a physician as prescribed by state licensure statutes.
Athletic trainers are sometimes confused with personal trainers. There is, however, a large difference in the education, skillset, job duties and patients of an athletic trainer and a personal trainer. The athletic training academic curriculum and clinical training follows the medical model. Athletic trainers must graduate from an accredited baccalaureate or master’s program, and 70% of ATs have a master’s degree.
Athletic training is recognized by the American Medical Association (AMA), Health Resources Services Administration (HRSA) and the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) as an allied health care profession.

Sports Injuries
All athletes should report any injury to the athletic trainer as soon as possible. In the event that an athlete goes to the doctor, the athlete must obtain a written “clearance letter” signed by the physician for full sports participation and turn it into the athletic trainer prior to return to play. In an event that an athlete does not turn in a clearance letter they will not be able to return to play until one is obtained.

Things to Note

  • If you need to see Mr. Sontag for an injury or tape, he is available after 3 until games begin or until the last practice ends. If you need to schedule a time to see Mr. Sontag, contact him via email (bryan.sontag@ptsolutions.com)
  • If you are injured, please speak with Mr. Sontag prior to seeking outside medical care. Campbell has a list of esteemed medical providers that are willing and able to help you.
  • If you see a doctor outside of Campbell, you are required to bring documentation from the physician. The documentation must state the diagnosis, treatment plan and return to play protocol.
  • If you suffer a concussion, you are required to complete a strict graduated return to play protocol before returning to full participation. This is regardless of clearance by a physician. The reason for this policy is to ensure no athletes are put at risk for further injury because they are not fully healthy.

Physicals

CHS hosts a school wide physical night every year in the spring towards the end of the school year. Physicals are $20 and are done on campus. All proceeds go to the CHS Sports Medicine program so we have the resources needed to take care of your student-athlete’s during their sport season. History forms must be filled out prior to attending physical night. Please use form on the website, the 2021-2022 physical.
